В 1972 году Strawbs вступили в свою звездную фазу и концептуальный альбом "Grave New World" стал лучшим в их дискографии. Этот диск стал последней работой Хупера с "Клубниками", поскольку ему не очень нравился поворот от фолка к року. После американских гастролей он расстался с коллективом, уступив место гитаристу Дэйву Ламберту, придерживающемуся роковых корней. В 1973 году с ним был записан альбом "Bursting at the Seams", две композиции из которого ("Lay Down" и "Part of the Union") попали в лучшую британскую десятку, а трек "Down by the Sea" получил постоянную прописку на штатовских FM-станциях.
